Costa Rican, Striker, 1m72

Nicknames: El Principito, Rolo, El Amigo del Gol

Beginning of Road Trip in America

Rolando Fonseca was born on June 6, 1974 in San José, Costa Rica. He started playing football at the age of 9, where he joined the youth divisions of Deportivo Saprissa. He made his debut in the Costa Rican first division in June 1991. He scored his first goal in August of that same year.

With this club, he won the CONCACAF Champions League twice before being loaned to Pachuca in Mexico. Then he spent time in Colombia, in Medellin and Cali, where he was not very decisive. In July 1997, he signed with Comunicaciones Fútbol Club where he stayed until 1999.

He was again loaned by Deportivo Saprissa to Comunicaciones Fútbol Club where he played throughout 2000. Moving from club to club, he signed with Alajuelense where he stayed for 6 years. His goal was to find his rhythm before the 2002 World Cup in which Costa Rica managed to qualify.

A legend of Costa Rican football

He then made numerous returns to Comunicaciones in Guatemala where he played several times separately. In 2012, he returned to Costa Rica to quietly finish his career at Carmelita, he was then 38 years old.

Fonseca will forever remain one of the few players to have played for both rival clubs Saprissa and Alajuelense, and he is still the top scorer in the biggest Costa Rican derby with 19 goals, 9 for Saprissa and 10 for Alajuelense.

He is also one of the greatest legends in the history of his country. Since he is one of the most capped players in the history of the UNCAF Nations Cup. In total, he will have played 29 matches for 18 goals in the competition. He is also one of the most capped players of his selection with 113 official matches for 47 goals, the best scorer in the history of his country.

With Costa Rica he will have managed to reach the World Cup. And he will have also scored the 1000th goal in the history of his country's national team. A historic moment.
