Mickaël Vincent André-Marie Landreau

Born May 14, 1979 in Machécoul (FRA)

French, goalkeeper, 1m84

Nickname: Micka

Beginnings at a very young age

Mickaël Landreau was born on May 14, 1979 in Machecoul, France. He made his professional debut on October 2, 1996 against SC Bastia at the age of 17 years and 141 days, he stopped a penalty taken by the Slovak Lubomir Moravcik. In a very short time, the young goalkeeper established himself as a starter. And he became the team captain at the age of 19.

With Landreau in goal, FC Nantes won the French championship in 2001 and the Coupe de France in 1999 and 2000. A capricious player despite his position as goalkeeper, he attempted a Panenka on April 17, 2004 during a penalty shootout against Sochaux, a shot easily stopped by the opposing goalkeeper. Nantes ultimately lost the final.

One of the best French goalkeepers of his time

Mickaël Landreau left FC Nantes in the summer of 2006 to join Paris Saint-Germain, despite two disappointing first seasons, he won the Coupe de la Ligue 2008. A monster of consistency, he celebrated his hundredth consecutive match in Ligue 1 with PSG on February 14, 2009.

Finally, in the summer of 2009 he joined LOSC but suffered a rupture of the cruciate ligaments in his right knee a few days after signing. While the medical examinations announced a six-month unavailability, he finally returned in October. And he played his first official match with LOSC on October 31 against Grenoble.

During the 2010/2011 season, he had one of the best seasons of his career. 55 matches played for 49 goals conceded and 19 clean sheets. In the championship, he was selected for the title of best goalkeeper in Ligue 1 at the UNFP trophies, and LOSC achieved a championship-French Cup double.

But after this fantastic season, he had a series of disappointing performances and gradually lost his starting place. And on December 6, 2012, LOSC and Landreau terminated his contract by mutual agreement.

A career with a bitter taste

He bounced back at SC Bastia where he quietly ended his career. And on December 4, 2013, he broke the record for the number of matches played in Ligue 1 by a player with 603 matches played, a figure that he would raise to 618. At the end of the 2013/14 season, he ended his career at the age of 35.

His career in the French national team was mixed. Despite each time amazing performances, 11 matches played for 3 goals conceded and 9 clean sheets. He did not manage to take the starting place of the team, in the shadow of Barthez and Coupet, then Lloris and Mandanda.
