Kurt Hamrin is without a doubt the best right winger that Sweden has ever known. A very good dribbler, he was an excellent finisher and a living legend of Fiorentina.

A young man with immense talent
Kurt Hamrin is a Swedish player born on November 19, 1934 in Stockholm. Able to play at the forefront of the attack or mainly in a right winger position, he was known for his exceptional dribbling and his sense of goal. But he also had great passing quality, notably with superb crosses or deep passes.
First a substitute and reserve player for the Swedish team AIK Solna, he finally began his footballing adventure in 1953 in a match against Malmö at just 19 years old. During his last season with the club, he scored 22 goals in 22 matches and finished top scorer in the championship. At the time, Swedish football was not yet professional and the player worked as an apprentice worker and then in zinc lithography for the Swedish newspaper "Dagens Nyheter".
In 1955, the player left his club AIK Solna having scored 54 goals in 62 matches and established himself as one of the best players ever trained in the country of Sweden. He leaves as a club legend despite his young age and as one of the players most loved by the supporters. Furthermore, by 1953, he was a Swedish international who established himself in the team.
Very good debut in Italy
In 1956, he left his bags in Italy and more precisely at the Old Lady's club, Juventus in Turin, who had spotted him during a friendly match between Portugal and Sweden. For his first match with the Juventus team, he scored twice against Lazio and his team won 3-0.
But the following season, he was forced to sign for the Padua club due to the regulation of two foreign players, Juventus having chosen to keep Omar Sivori and John Charles in their ranks. But Kurt Hamrin will make Juventus regret this choice because the player scores 20 goals in 30 matches with Padua and grabs a historic 3rd place in Serie A since it is the best result ever obtained by the club.
Fiorentina's greatest legend
In 1958, he logically signed with Fiorentina who were looking for a replacement for the Brazilian player Julinho. In a few matches, he convinced everyone and became the idol of the club's supporters who discovered the greatest legend in their history. A true love is born between the Swedish player, the supporters and the club. The player played the majority of his career there and remains among the top scorers in the history of the Viola with 203 goals scored in all competitions in 9 seasons at the club.
However, it may seem surprising, but he will never finish top scorer in the championship, proof of his regularity which maintained a constant rate of goals per season. With Fiorentina, Hamrin won two Italian Cups and the first Cup Winners' Cup in 1961 against Glasgow Rangers (2 goals to 1). Another player record: he still holds the record for goals scored by a player in an away match with 5 goals on February 2, 1964 against Atalanta Bergamo (7 goals to 1). Unfortunately, he will never win the championship title with the "Viola" who will always remain in the shadow of the three Italian ogres (AC Milan, Juventus and Inter).
Latest successes and return home
He ended his love affair with Fiorentina by signing for AC Milan in 1967 where he won his only Italian championship title, and won a second Cup of Cups in 1968 with a double in final against Hamburg. In 1969, he won the Champions League (4-1 victory against Ajax Amsterdam) after producing a magnificent performance in the semi-final first leg against Manchester United. He then left for Naples, where he had a brief stint before returning to Sweden for a final season at IFK Stockholm.
His history with the Swedish national team is good since he participated in the 1958 World Cup where he was one of the major players in his country's arrival in the final: 4 goals in 5 matches. But he cannot prevent the defeat of his homeland against Brazil in the final 5-2.
Once his career ended, he became a trader carrying out transactions between Italy and Sweden in ceramic objects before closing due to too much competition from new products imported from China. Being the sixth highest scorer of all time in the Italian championship, "l'uccellino" ("the little bird") as one of the journalists of "la Nazion" nicknamed him still remains in the memory of old fans.
