The ultimate goalscorer

Jimmy McGrory was born on April 26, 1904 in Garngad, Scotland, he began his career at St Roch's FC at an amateur level and was quickly spotted by one of the best clubs in the country, Celtic Glasgow. He joined the club with the clover in 1922 and was loaned to Clydebank, where he had a good first season with 13 goals in 30 league games.

A left winger, he made a name for himself in Scotland for his aggressive style and his powerful strikes that he was able to unleash with his right or left foot. Then moving into the axis to the striker position, the player will become a scoring machine, he finishes 3 times top scorer in the Scottish championship, in 1927 with 48 goals, in 1928 with 47 goals and in 1936 with 50 goals.

With Celtic Glasgow, he won 3 Scottish championships and 5 Scottish Cups. Remaining loyal to his club, he will stay there until the end of his career despite the insistence of the club's leaders who wanted to sell him to Arsenal. Despite an exorbitant salary that was offered to him, the player refuses and declares his love to Celtic.

A powerful and record-breaking player

Jimmy McGrory was a striker who measured 1m70, and despite his small size, he is one of the best players in history in the aerial game with a phenomenal vertical jump and a significant number of goals scored with his head, about a third of his goals. It is said that he had total control of the ball with his head.

During a match between Celtic Glasgow and Queen's Park Rangers, goalkeeper Jack Harkness tried to block a header from McGrory, the goalkeeper came out of the clash with 3 broken fingers. Also technically good, he became one of the best players in the history of Scottish football.

McGrory holds 2 records in Scottish football in addition to that of the top scorer of all time, that of the greatest number of goals scored by a player in a Scottish match with 8 goals and that of the record for goals in 1 season for a Scottish player with 63 goals scored during the 1927/28 season when he was 23 years old.

A short international career

With the Scottish national team, he did not receive the same success, he was only selected 7 times between 1928 and 1933, scoring 6 goals and proving decisive each time. He also scored twice against England in 1933 in front of 134,000 spectators.

The player who traumatized the Scottish defenses for nearly 17 years finally retired in 1938, at the age of 34.
