The legendary defender from Leeds United's golden era

Jack Charlton was born on May 8, 1935 in Ashington, England. Older brother of Bobby Charlton, he began his professional career when he was 17 years old. A very solid stopper and excellent in the air, he quickly established himself as one of the leaders of the Leeds United locker room.

An excellent football player, he had the ease to easily get the better of his opponent, robust, he gradually became one of the greatest legends in the history of his club. He is also one of the major elements of the most beautiful period in the history of Leeds United. A golden period crowned by 4 European finals, 2 of which he won.

The perfect complement to Bobby Moore

Joining the English national team in 1965, the 30-year-old player would establish himself for 5 years as the perfect teammate of Bobby Moore, a much less physical and more technical profile, together, they formed one of the best defensive duos in the history of football.

It was late in his career that the defender would experience his best years, like a good wine, it was with age that he became one of the best players in the British Kingdom. In 1967, he was also voted best player in the English championship while his team finished in 2nd place in the English championship.

His name will forever remain engraved in the hearts of English supporters for the 1966 World Cup in which he was a starter. He won the competition by forming an iron defense with Bobby Moore, only 3 goals conceded in the competition. Jack Charlton was the symbol of English football at the time, rough, powerful and sometimes brutal.

A very decisive defender

Jack Charlton was also the legendary defender of Leeds United's European epics. His favorite competition will also be the one he will win twice, the Fairs Cup, in 46 matches in the competition, the defender managed to score 10 goals. Crazy statistics showing his ability to score in big moments.

Affectionately called "Big Jack", the player will always remain loyal to his club with whom he shares 21 seasons. An incredible longevity for an exceptional player who will have made a name for himself despite the immense celebrity of his younger brother, Bobby. In total, he will have played 772 matches for his club, becoming the most capped player in the history of his club. He retired in 1973, at the age of 38.
