The Hungarian prodigy

Imre Schlosser was born on October 11, 1889 in Budapest, Hungary. Considered from a young age as a true football prodigy, he was recruited by Ferencváros, one of the biggest clubs of his time. He signed his first professional contract when he was only 16 years old and, as soon as he joined the first team, he became a major player in his club.

And it was logical that in 1906, he joined the Hungarian national team when he was only 17 years old. He played his first match on October 7, 1906 against Bohemia-Moravia, with a final score of 4-4. He scored his first goal with Hungary a month later. In total, he played 68 times for his country, scoring 59 goals. His statistics are completely crazy for a player who played for the Hungarian national team between 1906 and 1927, almost 19 years as a starter for his nation.

The legend of Ferencváros

Imre Schlosser, who played as a Second Striker and Striker, was simply the best Hungarian player of this period, along with Alfréd Schaffer. Standing at 1.72 metres tall, he was a very good header and a fearsome striker in front of goal. With a rare consistency and longevity, he still holds the crazy record for the number of goals scored in the Hungarian championship, 417 goals in 318 games played. A record that has stood for almost 100 years.

A true star of the Ferencváros club, he won a whopping 7 Hungarian championship titles in 12 years at the club. A serial scorer, he finished as the top scorer in the Hungarian championship 7 times throughout his career. And between 1911 and 1914, he finished top scorer in the major European championships 4 times.

The duet with Alfréd Schaffer and the peak of his career at MTK Budapest

With a rough style and surgical strikes, he was considered by many to be the best striker of his time in terms of the quality of his finishing. In 1916, he joined MTK Budapest, and he would once again dominate the Hungarian championship, in 6 years at the club, he won 6 championships and allowed the MTK Budapest of the time to be cited as one of the best teams of all time.

With Alfréd Schaffer, he formed a magnificent duo that would defeat any opposing team. In the two seasons they shared at MTK Budapest, they allowed the club to achieve 2 historic seasons:

1917/18: 43 points, 22 games, 21 wins, 1 draw, 147 goals scored for 10 conceded. Alfréd Schaffer finishing as the league's top scorer with 46 goals.

1918/19: 39 points, 22 games, 18 wins, 3 draws, 1 loss, 116 goals scored and 20 conceded. Alfréd Schaffer finishing as the league's top scorer with 41 goals.

The Hungarian Legend

Imre Schlosser's international career was marked by a simple participation in the 1912 Stockholm Olympic Games. And on November 6, 1921, he scored his final goal with Hungary, the 58th, a goal that would remain among the best because it was that of a record that would only be beaten by Ferenc Puskás in 1953, the record for the greatest number of goals scored in the Hungarian selection by a player.

In 1925, when he was 36 years old, he left Hungary for Austria and the Wiener AC club. He then returned to Ferencvaros before ending his career at Budai-33 in the 1927/28 season when he was 39 years old.
