The great hope of Swedish football

Henrik Larsson is the son of a Cape Verdean father and a Swedish mother, from the poor neighborhoods of his city, he was not destined to become a footballer. It was when he was 14 that he discovered a love for this sport, his parents gave him a video cassette for his birthday on the life of Pelé.

Barely 3 years later, he began his professional career in the club of Högaborgs BK, he was then 17 years old. Then he joined Helsingborgs IF, there, he scored goal after goal and became one of the biggest hopes of the country. In 1993, he decided to join the legendary club of Feyenoord Rotterdam.

There, he discovered another position, that of winger, a position in which he was nevertheless good thanks in particular to his great speed. After 149 matches and 42 goals, he left the Netherlands to join Celtic Glasgow in 1997. The best choice of his career, a choice that could however be surprising at first glance.

Celtic Glasgow's legendary striker

In Scotland, he would become this legendary striker, a true scorer and finisher of a very very high level, capable of playing in depth thanks to his speed or as a fox in the surface with the instincts of a scorer, he was a very complete striker. His human qualities were also notable, a humble, kind player who always wanted to improve. His style with his dreadlocks made him one of the most recognizable players in the history of this sport.

An absolute icon of Celtic Glasgow, he became match after match one of the best players in the history of this legendary club. In love with the club, he stayed there for 7 seasons, 7 seasons that allowed him to be included in the club's All-Time XI.

During the 2002/03 season, he reached the UEFA Cup final, which he unfortunately lost 3-2 against FC Porto of a certain José Mourinho. The Swede did everything to bring joy to the Scottish supporters, but despite his double in the final, the club narrowly lost. He finished the season with 51 matches, 44 goals and 20 assists in all competitions, including 11 goals in 10 Europa League matches.

Between 2000 and 2004, he had a series of stratospheric club seasons:

- 2002/03: 51 matches, 44 goals, 20 assists

- 2003/04: 58 matches, 41 goals, 20 assists

At that time, the player was at the top of his game, a striker who scored a lot and made others score a lot. In addition, he was decisive in big matches and seemed to be constantly improving his level. In total, he scored 242 goals in 315 matches with Celtic Glasgow, and he won the European Golden Boot. Between 2000 and 2004, he scored 173 goals and provided 54 assists in 206 games for the Scottish club.

The man of the 2006 Champions League final

While he was already 33 years old, the player was recruited by FC Barcelona in 2004, in the role of a luxury substitute, he took advantage of Eto'o's absences for the African Cup of Nations and the injuries of the offensive players to play. On May 17, 2006, for his last match with FC Barcelona, ​​the player who was almost 35 years old would give a masterclass.

The player entered the second half of the Champions League final, he played 29 minutes, he touched 13 balls, provided 2 assists and succeeded 83% of his passes. FC Barcelona won their match 2-1 against Arsenal while the match was badly started, the Swedish player completely cracked the players of the English club.

A legendary striker from Sweden

In 2006 he returned to Sweden, to play for Helsingborgs IF, there, he still seemed as strong, scoring between 2006 and 2009 54 goals in 107 games. At the beginning of 2007, he was loaned to Manchester United for a few weeks, there, he showed that he still had the level to play at the highest level. He notably scored a decisive goal in the round of 16 of the Champions League against LOSC. He finally retired in 2009, however playing a few games in 2012 and 2013.

He began his international career with the Swedish national team in 1993, in a match won 3-2 against Finland. He participated in the 1994 World Cup, he made a few substitutes and was decisive, notably in the match for 3rd place against Bulgaria, he scored a goal in this crazy 4-0 victory.

It would take 6 years before the player could again play a major international competition with Sweden, during the 2000 World Cup. He continued his international career, scoring important goals in the World Cup or Euro. He retired from international football in 2009, after almost 16 years of international career.
