Glenn Hoddle

Born October 27, 1957 in Hayes (ENG)

English, Attacking-midfielder, Second Striker, Right-midfielder, 1m83

Nickname: Glenda

One of the Premier League's greatest legends

Glenn Hoddle was born on October 27, 1957 in Hayes, England. Spotted at the age of 11, he joined Tottenham Hotspur and from a very young age demonstrated an extraordinary talent for destabilizing opposing defenses. In 1975, when he was not yet 18, he made his debut with the first team of the London club.

At a time when Tottenham was going through dark times, the player would prove himself to be a true genius of English football, he almost immediately established himself as one of the best English playmakers. And in the process, he was compared to the ultimate legend of British football, Bobby Charlton.

Establishing himself in the English capital team, the player will prove himself as one of the best players of his generation. He won the title of best young player in the English championship in 1980, and finished 5 times in the PFA team of the year of the English championship in 1980, 1982, 1984, 1986 and 1987.

To the conquest of France

With Hoddle, Tottenham will finally experience one of its golden ages. He won a UEFA Cup, two FA Cups and a Charity Shield. In a British football focused on aggression and kick and rush, the player sometimes had difficulty expressing himself perfectly. He then decided to join France and AS Monaco, he was then 30 years old.

Placed in the position of attacking midfielder, he will become the playmaker of the French club and one of the best players in the championship. He won the French championship in his first season and took advantage of the team's style of play, offensive, beautiful, pure and technical. The following season, he proved even more decisive, scoring 20 goals in all competitions in 47 matches, including 18 goals in 32 league matches (7 goals with his right foot, 6 goals with his left foot, 3 goals with his head and 2 on penalties).

A disappointing career with England

With the England national team, he participated in 2 World Cups and 2 Euros. In 1986, he was part of the team eliminated by Argentina in the quarter-finals. At Euro 1988, he was eliminated after 3 successive defeats. In 1991, he left AS Monaco after a serious knee injury in December 1990.

At Swindon Town, he became a player-coach in the English second division, where he played 71 matches for 2 goals, then he joined Chelsea FC in 1993 for his last 2 professional seasons. He finally ended his career in 1995 at the age of 37.
