The beginning of the 80s marked the beginning of his competition with Patrick Battiston, Janvion then became a left-back with ASSE and a libero/center-back with the French team. Michel Hidalgo repositioned him to this position of stopper in central defense, versatile and strong despite his 1.72 meters, he will play in this position during the 1982 World Cup where France had a magnificent tournament and finished in 4th place. With Marius Trésor, he will have formed a magnificent duo, very complementary.

In the summer of 1983, he left ASSE to join Paris Saint-Germain, he reached the final of the 1985 Coupe de France but lost it. He will then join AS Béziers before ending his career at the age of 34.
