The talented young player
Ferenc Bene was born on December 17, 1944 in Balatonújlak in Hungary. He began his career in 1961 in the club Ujpest Dosza. With this club, he imposed his talent, he won 8 Hungarian championships between 1969 and 1978, he also won 3 Hungarian Cups between 1969 and 1975.
Striker or second striker for his club, he must play as a winger for his country, with the Hungarian national team, which he joined in 1962, he formed a magnificent duo with Florian Albert. His debut with Hungary will have been marked by his age, he was only 17 years old. The player reached 3rd place in Euro 1964, he also participated in the Olympic Games the same year, he won the event and scored 12 goals, finishing top scorer of the competition.

After these two international competitions played, he took on a new status, that of a great European player. He participated in the 1966 World Cup and reached the quarter-finals. In 4 matches, he scored 4 goals. Ferenc Bene was then one of the best players in his country.
At club level, he reached the final of the ancestor of the Europa League, the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, in 1969, he unfortunately lost the final 6-2 on aggregate in the two matches. He also reached the semi-finals of the Champions League in 1974, eliminated by Bayern Munich and reached the semi-finals of the Cup Winners' Cup in 1962, eliminated by Fiorentina.

He left Ujpest Dosza in 1978, after 17 years at the club, 600 matches played and 431 goals scored. He then played in other clubs in Hungary and finally retired in 1985, he was then 40 years old.
