The greatest legend of Red Star Belgrade
Dragan Džajić was born on May 30, 1946 in Ub in the former Yugoslavia. A player with extraordinary qualities, he began his career at the age of 17. Only 3 years later, he became the youngest captain in the history of the Red Star Belgrade club. A crazy striker, he was both excellent at finishing and creating actions.
A fast, technical and incredibly good winger in dribbling, he is one of the best in history in the exercise. With a magical left foot, he quickly became considered one of the best players in the world. He also had a signature move, scoring directly from a corner.
Capable of scoring from any angle, he was one of the best free-kick takers in history. With 5 Yugoslav championships and 4 Yugoslav Cups, he is considered the best player in the history of this now-defunct nation.
An exceptional player
He also had a long international career for Yugoslavia, playing a total of 85 matches in 15 years and scoring 23 goals, he is also the selection record for a Yugoslav player. Having participated in 2 Euros, he reached the final in 1968 and lost in the final.
During this year 1968, the player is one of the very best players in the world, he also finished 3rd in the Ballon d'Or. He won the Mitropa Cup, the Yugoslav Championship, the Yugoslav Cup, was a finalist in the Euro, was in the Euro team of the year and was the top scorer, a stratospheric year for the winger.
He took part in the World Cup in 1974 but it was a failure for Yugoslavia. In 1975, after a total of 115 goals scored in 309 matches during his first stint with Red Star Belgrade, he decided in 1975 to join the SC Bastia club with whom he scored 31 goals in 70 matches in France.
He returned to Red Star Belgrade in 1977 for a final season, he scored 7 goals in 28 matches and ended his magnificent career when he was only 32 years old.
