Cobi N'Gai Jones

Born June 16, 1970 in Detroit (USA)

American, Attacking-midfielder, Right-winger, 1m70

Very late professional debut

Cobi Jones was born on June 16, 1970 in Detroit, USA. He started playing football at the age of 5 in Wastlake Village, California. Continuing to play football, he logically became one of the best university players in the country. It would ultimately be necessary to wait until he was 24 years old for the player to begin a professional career.

After a 1994 World Cup where he was a starter and reached the round of 16 with the USA, he was finally approached by the Coventry City club, which was then playing in the Premier League, in England, at 24, he finally tasted a professional club career.

One of the best players in US history

There was only one season left in Europe, time to play about twenty Premier League matches and secure his team's survival in the elite of English football. He then flew to Germany where he trained with the 1. FC Cologne team while waiting to join the Brazilian club Vasco de Gama.

Continuing to string together high-level performances with the USA, his adventure in Brazil was a bitter failure, only 4 small matches played for 1 goal. The player who had just had a huge Copa America 1995 then returned to the USA with the new MLS team, the LA Galaxy.

In the USA, the player would finally experience consistency and a good level in the club, he also had an exceptional 1998 season with a 2nd place in MLS with 51 points and especially 19 goals scored and 13 assists delivered in 28 matches played, crazy statistics for the player who can play attacking midfielder or winger.

With this crazy season, he was logically integrated into the MLS XI and also named American footballer of the year. Having had seasons with over 10 g/a during his MLS career, he would finally end his career in 2007, after 11 years playing for the LA Galaxy.

Undisputed leader in the number of selections for the United States with 164 matches, he was for many one of the best players in the history of his country. He also scored 15 goals for his country. He was also a player in big matches, participating in 3 World Cups between 1994 and 2002, and being part of the XI of the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2000.
