An absolute legend of Red Star Belgrade

Bora Kostić was born on June 14, 1930 in Obrenovac in Yugoslavia. Left-handed, he will join Red Star Belgrade when he is 21 years old. During his career, he will have played a total of 14 years for his favorite club. For Red Star Belgrade, he will have played a total of 580 matches for 539 goals adding friendly games. Enough to prove his incredible talent as a finisher.

Left winger or striker, he will have dominated the Yugoslav championship, winning a total of 7 Yugoslav championship titles. Thus becoming one of the most successful players in the history of the country. He also won 3 Yugoslav Cups between 1958 and 1964.

An incredible goalscorer

Bora Kostić was mainly known for his magnificent quality of finishing. Ranking 3rd among the best scorers in the history of the Yugoslav championship with 158 goals, behind Bajević (164 goals) and Santrac (218 goals), he was twice the best scorer in the championship in a season, during those of 1958/59 with 25 goals and that of 1959/60 with 19 goals.

His legend also grew when he played for his country. In total, he played 33 goals between 1956 and 1964 for 26 goals. Crazy statistics. During his debut, against Indonesia, he had already scored his first goal for his country. With Yugoslavia, he was captain in 1960, during which he was a finalist in the Euro. During that same year, he won the Olympic Games in Rome.

In 1961, he tried the adventure of joining Italy and Serie A, a failure, only 7 games played during the season for 2 goals. He then returned directly to the Red Star of Belgrade where he found his full level, scoring goals. Then in 1967, then aged 37, he decided to join the United States and the St. Louis Stars team where he had a very good season, 12 goals in 28 games. A last season for a legend of this sport.
