A legend of Belgian football
Bernard Voorhoof was born on May 10, 1910 in Lier, Belgium. He began his career in 1927 at Lierse SK, aged 17, he quickly established himself in the team as one of the best players in his country and one of the best finishers in Europe.
He became a Belgian international in 1928, he played his first match with Belgium on April 15, 1928 at the age of 17. He scored his first goal for his country despite his country's 3-2 defeat against France. With his country, he participated in 3 World Cups between 1930 and 1938. He also became the first Belgian player to score in this competition during the 5-2 defeat against the Germans, he scored twice.
At the end of his time with the Red Devils, he was the top scorer of the Belgian selection with 30 goals scored. An exceptional player, he was voted best player of Lierse SK in the 20th century. His career in the Belgian championship was exceptional, already, he won 2 championships with his team, and during the 1939/40 season he scored 8 goals in a match against Aalst. Finally the season was stopped by the Second World War. This was his only title as top scorer in the championship. In 1948, he joined RRFC Montegnée for a final season, he retired from football at the age of 39.
