Andrew Alexander Cole
Born October 15, 1971 in Nottingham (ENG)
English, Striker, 1m80
Very complicated beginnings
Andy Cole was born on October 15, 1971 in Nottingham, England. Trained at Arsenal FC, the player was unable to take a place in the first team and had to settle for two games for the club, including his first in the Premier League in December 1990 against Sheffield United.
In search of playing time, the player went on loan to Fulham then to Bristol City in the English 3rd division, he was finally recruited by the club which had just reached the English second division. During his time at Bristol City, he aroused the curiosity of Kevin Keegan, Newcastle United coach.
A totally crazy 1993/94 season
Under his spell, the coach recruited the player in February 1993, the transfer reached two million pounds, the club's record at the time. Following his great performances in the English Second Division, the player will shine in the Premier League during the 1993/94 season, at 23 years old, the player is at the top of English football.
During this famous 1993/94 season, the player finished top scorer in the English championship by scoring 34 goals in 40 league games, but in addition to being a scoring machine, he is also an altruistic player, since he delivers 13 assists in the league. During this season, he scores 41 goals and delivers 14 assists in 45 games in all competitions at club level.
In a year and a half with Newcastle, the player will score 68 goals in 84 games, he logically becomes an English international in March 1995 and changes dimension, becoming a star of the English championship. He also becomes the best young player in the championship.
The Cole-Yorke duo
Andy Cole already seemed too strong to simply play at Newcastle, and in 1995, he was recruited by Manchester United, his first season showed a time of adaptation because he only scored 13 goals in 43 games. The player who was to succeed Mark Hughes had to progress to establish himself definitively in the team.
A very fast player, he was formidable in the air but seemed limited in his progress, it would be necessary to wait until 1998 and the arrival of another star of the championship, Dwight Yorke for the player to find his level again. During the 1998/99 season, the duo was sublime and transformed into one of the best attacking duos in the world.
Between September 1998 and December 1999, the duo would score 64 goals between them. And in 1999, the duo had one of the best seasons in the history of the Mancunian club, a historic quadruple: Champions League, Intercontinental Cup, Premier League and FA Cup. Andy Cole was decisive in the Champions League semi-finals in the return match against Juventus, scoring a goal and providing 1 assist.
A disappointing international career
In 2001, after 6 years playing for Manchester United, he decided to leave the club to join a lower-ranked club with Blackburn Rovers, having 2 great seasons, he then returned to Fulham and then played for English clubs before finally retiring in 2008, at the age of 36.
His international career was disappointing, the player never managed to make his mark in international matches, playing only 15 matches and scoring only 1 goal for his country. He never played in a major tournament with England.
