A legendary first match

Karl-Heinz Körbel was born on December 1, 1954 in Dossenheim, Germany. He started playing football at his hometown club, FC Dossenheim. First a goalkeeper, he then played in defense and quickly became a promising young footballer. When he was 16, he tried out at Hamburg SV. The German club offered him a signing, but he hesitated and then refused, not wanting to move away from his home region. Other clubs then offered him a signing, Vfb Stuttgart or Kickers Offenbach, but it was ultimately Eintracht Frankfurt who recruited him.

For his debut with the Frankfurt club, the player will perform a masterclass, marking a certain Gerd Müller, the player will only concede one goal and allow his team to win 2-1 against the great Bayern Munich. Gerd Müller will have struggled throughout the match because of the young 17-year-old kid.

The legendary defender of Eintracht's golden age

Spending his entire career as a stopper for the Frankfurt club, he will play a total of 19 years with them. He plays 602 Bundesliga matches, a historic record. He will also have participated in 70 German Cup matches and 48 European Cup matches. His record for his club is incredible since it is the golden age of Eintracht.

He won 4 German Cups in 1974, 1975, 1981 and 1988. In 1974, he also won the UEFA Amateur Cup, a competition that no longer exists and which pitted amateur national teams against each other. In Europe, he won the UEFA Cup in 1980 with his club and established himself as one of the best German defenders in history.

International career ruined by Bavarian friendship

Scoring important goals, he was the only scorer in the 1975 German Cup final. Then in 1989, he scored the goal that saved his club from direct relegation. An intelligent defender, he never received a red card during his entire career, a total of 732 matches.

He ended his career in 1991, at the age of 37. A legendary defender in the German championship, he did not, however, play for the German national team for so long. In total, he only played 6 matches for his country between 1974 and 1975. Despite his status as a very high-quality defender, Franz Beckenbauer campaigned with his coach to have Hans-Georg Schwarzenbeck as his defense teammate, Helmut Schön gave in to the legend's request and no longer selected Körbel.
