A young world champion
Jair Da Costa was born on July 9, 1940 in Santo André, Brazil. He began his professional career at the age of 19 in the Portuguesa club. He quickly established himself in the team and joined the Brazilian National Team in 1962, he was also part of the team that won the World Cup although he did not play a single minute in the competition.
After this World Cup, he was recruited by Internazionale Milan in November 1962. He became a legend and a very useful player in Helenio Herrera's tactics, playing both the role of very offensive right-back or right winger. Playing for this Italian club between 1962/1967 and 1968/72, he won 2 Champions Leagues, participated in 2 other finals, won 2 Intercontinental Cups and finished 4 times champion of Italy. A completely successful career for the Brazilian genius.
A legendary winger
With very good speed, he was a very complete winger and able to dribble his opponents easily. He is also the first Brazilian player in history to win several Champions Leagues, even a record for the Intercontinental Cup while playing for a European club.
Agile, gifted with both feet, and with excellent ball technique. Jair Da Costa also made himself known for his striking power and his running with the ball at his feet. He made extensive use of feints and dribbles of all kinds.
He also played for another Italian club, AS Roma for whom he played 1 season, that of 1967/68 without really shining. Then after his second stint at Inter Milan, he returned to Brazil to play for Santos FC. There he won the Campeonato Paulista in 1973, before quietly retiring to Canada at the Windsor Star, aged 35 at the time.
