The fantastic winger
Éder Aleixo was born on May 25, 1957 in Vespasiano, Brazil. He joined the youth categories of América Mineiro and made his professional debut in 1973 as a left winger. It was finally at Grêmio that the player would truly explode in the eyes of the general public. He had very good performances there before being recruited by the rival, Atlético Mineiro in 1980.
He stayed there for a good part of his career, 5 years, Brazilian international, he was one of the leading figures of the Brazilian championship of that time. He would make 2 other returns later in his career. In 1983, he finally obtained individual consecration by being Brazilian Silver Ball in 1983 and elected 3rd Best South American Player of the Year in 1983. 3 years after being elected Revelation of the Year of the Brazilian championship in 1980.
A legend of Brazilian football
With a short stint in Turkey with Fenerbahçe, he nevertheless spent almost his entire career in Brazil, where he is a legend. He played professional football until 1997, when he was 40 years old.
Éder Aleixo played a total of 52 matches for the Brazilian national team between 1979 and 1986. A starter at the 1982 World Cup, he scored 2 goals and his popularity increased drastically with his good performances. Against the USSR, he also had a very good performance: 1 goal, 2 successful dribbles, 98 balls touched, 74% successful passes, 3 key passes and 2 interceptions. He maintained this good level throughout the tournament.
He had a brutal end to his international career, while the player was surely going to be a starter for the 1986 World Cup, the player had a fit of anger during a match against Peru and was sent off from the match. After that, the player was never called up to play for the Seleçao again.
