A kid with crazy talent

Tomas Brolin was born on November 29, 1969 in Hudiksvall, Sweden. He made his professional debut at the exceptional age of 14, in 1984 with Näsvikens IK. He also stayed for 6 years to play in Sweden where he showed immense talent and enormous potential and on April 25, 1990, he played his first match with Sweden against Wales, the beginning of a great adventure with his country.

The player was then selected to play in the 1990 World Cup, and during the competition he scored a magnificent goal against Brazil, dribbling Carlos Mozer before scoring. Unfortunately for him, his team was too weak and failed to qualify for the rest of the competition.

But the media impact of the competition and the talent of the young Swede who is stealing the show pushes Parma AC to recruit the player. There, he quickly becomes a player adored by the fans and rubs shoulders with legendary players such as Faustino Asprilla and Gianfranco Zola. With the Italian club, he wins the 1993 Cup Winners' Cup as well as the 1995 UEFA Cup. Making Parma AC one of the biggest clubs in Europe.

An incredible international career

But where Brolin's career will be legendary is with the Swedish national team where he plays mainly in the position of attacking-midfielder. First with Euro 1992 where he finishes joint top scorer of the competition with 3 goals. But especially with the 1994 World Cup, a competition where he will shine brightly.

He scored against Russia, Romania and Bulgaria, and provided assists against Brazil, Saudi Arabia and again against Bulgaria in the match for 3rd place. In total, he scored 3 goals and provided 4 assists in 7 matches and gave Sweden a surprise 3rd place. Tomas Brolin was then one of the best attacking midfielders in the world. At the end of this fantastic year, he finished in 4th place in the 1994 Ballon d'Or.

A catastrophic end to a career

Unfortunately for the player, his career came to an abrupt end, a broken foot suffered during a Euro 96 qualifying match against Hungary. This injury, which kept him off the pitch for 6 months, put an end to the starting position he had at Leeds (which he had joined in 1995).

This transfer is also classified as one of the worst in the history of the English championship as the player was no longer the same. His finesse, creativity, mobility and speed were no longer the same. In addition to physical problems, the player showed disciplinary problems, especially against Howard Wilkinson (his coach at the time), whom he wanted to upset.

The player was then overweight and gradually ended his career after a loan to Parma, a stint at Crystal Palace and a return to Sweden. He put a definitive end to his career in May 1998, when he was only 29 years old.
