A career marked by injuries
Orvar Bergmark was born on November 16, 1930, in Bureå, Sweden. Born into a family of athletes, he quickly began playing soccer on local pitches. He spent his youth playing in the streets of his village. A passionate admirer of the sport, he continually improved his skills until he showed immense potential.
A skilled technician, he enjoyed dribbling and one-on-ones. At 18, he joined Örebro SK after playing for several local clubs. Determined, he quickly made a name for himself at his club, and his fans fell in love with him. However, injuries would occasionally slow his rise.
Refusing to give up despite numerous injuries, he showed his full potential during the 1950s, becoming one of the best Swedish players of his generation, part of a golden generation boasting exceptional players in every position. A good shooter and dribbler despite his defensive position, his reputation grew.
An absolute legend of Swedish football
A Swedish international since 1951, he became a regular starter for the team and, as expected, participated in the 1958 World Cup as a right back. During that World Cup, he reached the tournament final against Brazil, a home defeat but a record for reaching the final for such a small country.
Having suffered numerous injuries throughout his career, he embodied the courage to always get back up and continue giving his all on the pitch. A prominent figure in Sweden during the 1950s and 1960s, he continued to play for his country until 1965, at the age of almost 35, earning his 94th cap for Sweden.
In 1962, he tried the adventure of playing with AS Roma, a failed adventure since he only played 3 matches in 2 seasons. Then he returned to Sweden to quietly finish his football career in 1965 at the age of 35.
