Edino Nazareth Filho
Born June 5, 1955 in Rio de Janeiro (BRE)
Brazilian, Center-Back, 1m80
A technical defender
Edinho was born on June 5, 1955 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, he joined the youth teams of Fluminense when he was 13 years old. His professional career began in 1975 when he was 20 years old. Giving his all during all the matches, he quickly became a major figure of his club. Quite good physically, he had a good ball technique and good ball handling.
Edinho gradually established himself as one of the best defenders in the country and reached the Seleçao in 1977, at only 22 years old. With him, Fluminense was one of the best teams in Brazil and won 3 Rio Championships. A very good free-kick taker, he was also the goal scorer who gave the 1980 Carioca Championship trophy against Vasco de Gama.
A legend of Brazilian football
His career with the Seleçao will take him to many competitions, notably in the Olympic categories. He won the Pan American Games in Mexico in 1975 and reached 4th place at the Olympic Games in Montreal in 1976. Then he reached 3rd place at the World Cup in 1978.
In total, he will have played 45 times for Brazil and 18 times for the Olympic team. He ended his career with the Seleçao in 1986 after the defeat against France. He will unfortunately never have been able to win a major trophy with his country and despite the legendary Brazilian team of the early 80s.
A great club career
In club, he will have notably spent time at Udinese, in Italy from 1982 to 1987, an adventure where the player put in great performances and confirmed his status as a world-class defender. He then returned to Brazil in 1987 to Flamengo before returning to Fluminense and ending his career at Grêmio. He won the Brazilian Cup there in 1989 and retired the following year at the age of 35.
